Core Virtues & Character First
Core Virtues is a practical, non-sectarian approach to character education, where each month teachers highlight a key intellectual, moral, or civic virtue – virtues such as respect, responsibility, diligence, honesty or generosity. Core Virtues follows a story-based approach and is backed by the Core Knowledge Foundation.
Character First partners alongside Core Virtues, bringing in hands on activities, historical connections, poetry, and crafts that correlate with each virtue. The objective of both programs is to ignite the imagination of the young, inspiring them to do and be their best as they grow up to be citizens of this world.
For the 2023-2024 school year we will be working on the following virtues:
October: Respect, Attentiveness (Middle School)
November: Gratefulness
December: Generosity
January: Courage, Boldness (Middle School)
February: Honesty, Truthfulness (Middle School)
March: Diligence
April: Compassion
May: Forgiveness
At the end of each month, teachers will nominate students who exemplified the monthly virtue & those who showed improvement and progressed towards showing it. Students who been nominated will receive an award, small prize, and recognition on a bulletin board.
