Dear ACS Families and Friends,
I hope you had a wonderful fall break! I know
the ACS staff and I did and now we are refreshed
and ready to get back to work. Conferences have
been going well and many of our teachers have been
using the data from C-SNAP to show students’ progress
and growth. The teachers have been creating goals
for students with this data and have shared it
with you. I hope you found this information helpful.
We appreciate the partnership with you to ensure
the best education for your children.
As we implement new changes, we have to sometimes
struggle to achieve the end result. Our new tardy
policy has proven to be effective and the number
of tardies has been slowly decreasing. Thank you
for helping us improve the tardy situation and
encouraging your children off to a great start
each and every day. Beginning the day on time helps
children come into the classroom ready to concentrate
and focus on learning.
Our Harvest Parties will be on Friday, November
2. Please check with your classroom teachers for
times and events. Also, please remember that we
will not have school on November 9 due to a change
in our teacher in-service day. We will have school
on November 12 instead. Please mark your calendars!
We value our parents, families and community members.
If you have comments, concerns, or a great idea
to share, please feel free to contact me. Thank
you for sharing your wonderful children with us!

Yvette Brown

Fun Fact
In relation to its size,
the tarsier, a small primate, has the largest eyes
of any land mammal. A human’s
eyes would have to be the size of grapefruits
to compare to the size of the tarsier’s
eyes!

Dear Families and Friends of ACS,
It was great to see you all during parent-teacher
conferences this week! Thank you for coming and
speaking with your student’s teacher(s) about
their academic progress. We also appreciate those
parents who stopped by the elementary lab to complete
their parent survey and those who went to the middle
school lab to get their log-in information for
the parent portal of Infinite campus.
Special Note: The middle school teachers would
like me to remind students and parents that all
middle school students need to have a book to read
at all times for all classes. Many times when students
finish a test early, or have academic assistance
they do not have a book to read. Please help us
by ensuring your student has a current book to
read!
This seems to be such a busy time here at ACS
as we get ready for all the holidays and events
that have been planned, that I’d like to
share with you a few of the upcoming events for
November!
-
Our Virtue Assembly for October will be
held on Wednesday, October 31st, at 8:50
in the cafeteria for elementary students and
at 2:55
in the cafeteria for Middle school students.
-
Harvest
Parties will be held next Friday, November
2nd. The middle school grade level coordinators
and Dean Peters met on Friday to discuss
food,
games, and activities. The grade level coordinators
will be contacting their grade level parents
for assistance. ACM FALL HARVEST FLYER
-
The Student Council is going to
be sponsoring a Harvest Dance next Friday,
November 2, from 6-9
p.m. The cost is $5.00 per student as well
as a donation of 2 cans of food or 2-non-perishable
items. Please look for a flyer regarding this
later
in the newsletter.
-
We will be having our second
Bully-free assembly on Friday, November 16th.
It was very nice to see so many of our ACS parents
during parent-teacher conferences. I would appreciate
any feedback you have regarding the following
changes- having later appointments on Thursday,
and having a group setting in the gym for middle
school conferences on Friday. Your feedback will
assist me in determining how we set these appointments
for 3rd quarter conferences. Please email me
your thoughts on this to petersk@academcharter.org.
As always, thank you for your support of ACS,
our staff and our students!

The ACS volunteers have been very busy this week.
I would like to thank all of the volunteers who
prepared the delicious dinner and lunch for the
staff during parent-teacher conferences. Allyson
Ford and Gina Ordunez did a great job organizing
and setting up and cleaning up for these meals—we
appreciate all your hard work! Please remember
to log in your hours spent preparing and delivering
the food.
I have many other folks to thank for volunteering
around the school. Lisa Nicholaides kindly helped
me with picture retakes before Fall Break. Jaynee
Hodgkins made all the arrangements and helped with
our Flu Clinic. Julie Benzel generously came in
to help with the library Book Fair. This is truly
remarkable as Julie’s students have moved
on to other schools now and she still was willing
to come and help with the Book Fair since Mrs.
Zoetewey is on leave. I would also like to thank
all of the volunteers who helped in the library
with the Book Fair.
Thanks to Linda Flynn ACS now has a wheel chair
for our clinic! Linda found a wheel chair through
the Children’s Hospital moving sale. Way
to go, Linda! Now we will be able to transport
injured students and staff members much more easily.
Remember, ONE person can make a difference! We
appreciate all you do for ACS.
