Dear Family and Friends of ACS,

Our CSAP window for our Third Grade Reading CSAP’s will be the week of February 13-17. The window for the rest of the CSAP’s in grades 3-8 will be the weeks of March 13- 17 and March 20- 24. An exact schedule of the days we will be testing is listed in Dean Peters’ Newsletter blurb below.

I would like to thank the parents that participated in our Parent Workshop Night on Wednesday. I was not able to attend for health reasons, but Dean Peters said it was fun and informative!

I am also very proud of our 7th grade students, who put on a fantastic play last Friday night! Congratulations on a job well done!

On Friday, February 17th, our school will be closed for an in-service day. On in-service days, even though our ACS staff is going through different trainings, our office has always been open. However, on this particular day please make note that our entire staff will be in-servicing and even our office will be closed this day. Please do not try to come to the school to retrieve missing student items or to discuss an issue with our office or staff, as we will all be learning about positive and effective communication this day and cannot be interrupted. Thanks for your understanding!

Dear ACS Families and Friends,

I’d like to remind you about some upcoming events at ACS. Our 8th graders will be presenting their drama performance of Midsummer’s Night Dream in the ACS gym at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, January 27th. They have been busy rehearsing their lines, designing sets, and gathering their costumes for this play. I am really looking forward to seeing this performance!

As a reminder, Castle View High School will be hosting their Parent Registration Information Meeting here at ACS in the cafeteria on Tuesday, January 31st from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring their completed forms so representatives can answer any questions. The freshman registration forms for Castle View High school are due by Friday, February 3rd. Please turn the completed forms into the office.

Third grade reading CSAP testing will begin on Tuesday, February 14th, and last through Wednesday, February 15th, this year. If you need to schedule any appointments on these days, please do so in the afternoon, as students will be testing in the morning. I will provide more information regarding the rest of CSAP testing for grades 3-8 in the next few weeks once we’ve finalized the testing schedule.

I’d like to take this opportunity to applaud the 7th grade class for the outstanding job they did with their short story performances last Friday evening. We definitely have very talented, dedicated, and creative students! Congratulations on a wonderful performance!

Thank you as always for your support of Academy Charter School!

I don’t know about you, but I am always glad to see the end of January. I heard that many folks feel discouraged and slightly depressed at this time in January—perhaps I fit this generalization. February is right around the corner and we have many activities going strong here at the school.

Please stop in and pick up your license plate holder if you have completed and logged at least 20 hours of volunteer time here at the school. Hopefully we will see more and more cars sporting our ACS license plate holders!

I would like to remind everyone that you need to have at least 10 hours of volunteer time logged by February 1st or your could lose your sibling priority for this next school year. If you have a student on the sibling priority list or a new Kindergarten student ready to start next year, please make sure you have completed and logged the necessary hours very soon.

Thanks again for continuing to “Make a Difference” at ACS!

Sean and Jennifer Templeton will be selling grocery certificates again tomorrow during carpool time. This is a great way to raise money for our school without any cost to you! These certificates are sold in $25 denominations and can be used at King Soopers or Safeway and they are just like cash. These certificates are also available in the school office at any time of the day. Thanks for supporting this easy fundraiser!

If you have a son or daughter that will be starting Kindergarten next year, please stop by the office and tell me. I would like to have all the siblings enrolled for next year before we start dealing with the lottery folks.

Please let me know what your preference is----full day kindergarten, morning class, or afternoon class. Thanks for your attention to this important matter.

Survey Deadline Reminder

You still have a few more days to complete your online ACS Parent Survey! The survey deadline is next Tuesday, January 31st. We would like to encourage 100% parent participation, and so far have received responses from approximately 1/3 of our families. If you did not receive the survey, please contact Cynthia Heikes at cdfheikes@msn.com. If you do not have access to a computer, arrangements can be made at the school for you to use one here.

Governing Board Meeting

The February Governing Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 13th, at the school. We look forward to seeing many parents and staff in attendance.

Our Lost and Found is brimming over! Please have your student check for any missing items as the collection has really grown since we came back from Winter Break. The ACS Lost and Found is located right inside the school cafeteria to your right.

EDUCATION EXPO

Look for more information coming in your Friday Folders about our exciting spring fundraiser. Remember, “Education Expo” will be our “big” fundraiser for the year, so the ACS/PTO needs your help and support. A “day camp” of discovery for the ACS students will be a fun way to round out the school year. We will need volunteers for the event and we are still in need of two committee chairs for “Volunteer Coordinator” and “Food” Committee. If you are interested in chairing, co-chairing or volunteering in any capacity, please contact Misty O’Leary @ 303-688-6631 or jimandmisty@comcast.net. Remember, help in any capacity goes toward the required 20 hours of parent volunteer time.

CORPORATE SPONSORS

The ACS/PTO is looking for corporate sponsors for our “Education Expo” and would like to extend an invitation to businesses within the ACS community. If you would like more information on becoming a sponsor for this event, please contact Katherine Titus @ 720-733-2658 or katitus@comcast.net
