September:
-
Golf event - 10/1
-
Trade and Play
-
Fall Carnival - 10/29
The first General PTO meeting (for all parents) is on Tuesday,
September 20 at 6:00 PM at ACS cafeteria. We will discuss several
important topics, including finances, and upcoming events. There
will be parent voting on issues.
What has PTO funding accomplished
lately? The Phonic Ear and Traveling Class Amplifier system
was purchased, contributions were made to Governing Funds for
last school year, World Almanac Education was purchased for the library, and
Mouse/Keyboards were purchased. All of this was made possible through the help
of ACS families volunteering and fundraising. MANY THANKS! A note on fundraisers:
We have intentionally “front loaded” our schedule,
having much of our fundraising in September and October. However, we plan to
avoid fundraising events for November, December and January. Of course, if
enough money is raised, we won’t need ANY other fundraisers
this year. The point is we really need volunteer help right away
to get the most out of our fundraisers
going on this month and next. Please, if at all possible, find a way to help
us in helping ACS have a financially successful year.
We’re looking for bakers!!! Share your cooking
talents with the ACS staff! Our first teacher & staff
breakfast is Friday, September 30. Food needs to be delivered
by 7:30
a.m. Please contact Jackie Radcliffe at 303-663-7498
email: Jackie_radcliffe@msn.com or
Michele Schiebe at 303-663-9661 and let us know what
you can contribute. Thanks, in advance,
for supporting the staff! Don’t forget to log your
volunteer hours for cooking and delivering the food!
The October 29th Fall Carnival plans are underway. Pick
your favorite category and help out in some way. Set
up/Clean up: coordinator
is Sherry Hill. Class-Games: coordinator is Misty O’Leary.
Coordinators are needed within the week for Food, Activity-Games,
Jail, Publicity and Music. For crew- or coordinator-help
of any kind please call Jessica Herbert 303-688-4262 or
Katherine Titus
720-733-2658.
Entertainment book sales end today (Friday, September
9). Good work everyone! Results of this fundraiser will be
available soon.
It is CRITICAL that the unsold books be turned in. ACS loses
money that the students worked very hard to raise if the unsold
books
are not returned. If you want to support ACS without participating
in the sale, our goal is to raise the equivalent of $28, net
earnings, per student with this event. Koins for Kids campaign starts
tomorrow (Saturday, September 10) with a big kickoff at the Castle
Rock Movie Night. You can
purchase
a package of 4 oil changes for $35 from Auto Master (member
BBB and Castle Rock Merchants Assoc.). Please see Friday-folder
hand
outs for more details. Our school can raise quite a lot of
money through this event with your help. Volunteers are needed
for
storefront sales. This will be one of the best opportunities
for help from
parents who cannot volunteer during the workweek. Contact Michael
Anderson or sign up by the volunteer desk (across from the
front office). Michael Anderson at Michael@planetAnderson.biz or
303-624-3647. There is interest in having a uniform exchange event.
If you are interested in coordinating this, please contact Kate
Fischer
303-688-8461. The golf outing will be October 1st. It is not
too late to sign up! Please try to sign up before September 16th.
This
event promises
to be a FUN time and raises money for ACS. For details
see Friday-folder flyers or contact Karen Anderson 720-733-0501. “Trade and Play”. Anyone who likes video games should watch
for this event in October! It’s a chance to save and
to get money for ACS. (Details will be coming soon.)
FYI -A PUBLIC SERVICE ARTICLE
Chart
The Way To Your Child's Success: Good behavior is easy when
using charts! (from www.parenting.org – a service of girls
and boys town) Charts are basically understandings between you and your
kids that spell out what they will receive from you when they
behave in certain
ways. They are contracts that use pictures to show the agreements
and are an effective way to change problem behavior. For example,
let's consider how a chart worked for Billy, 8, and his parents: Billy wanted later bedtimes, especially on weekends. Billy's parents
wanted him to go to bed on time without arguing each
night. Billy's
bedtime on weeknights was 9 o'clock. Each weeknight that Billy
went to bed on time without arguing, he put a star on the chart.
The more nights he went to bed on time (shown with stars) the
later he got to stay up on the weekend. This chart helped Billy
get to
bed on time, and the same idea can help you reach your own
goals with your children. They may include encouraging homework
completion,
being ready for school on time in the morning, and helping
others each day. Any of these goals could use a similar chart to
get
the job done. What you are doing is linking two activities together.
The important thing is the less desirable activity (like homework)
takes place
before the more desirable activity (like watching television).
When you use charts, review your child's progress every day.
Provide encouragement to keep going. When your child reaches
the goal,
give what you promised. And, pile on the praise! Hoping you
have a great weekend,
Victoria Arnett
