Greetings from 7th & 8th Grade Language Arts!
7th and 8th graders continue to plug away at the eight parts of speech, as we are wrapping up the unit on adjectives. We will tackle adverbs after that and then begin reviewing for an exam on all parts of speech.
8th grade is finishing the short story unit by completing a packet on over twenty elements of fiction. They are using the short stories they have read to illustrate their knowledge of these elements. 7th grade, too, is wrapping up short stories and completing a plot diagram, complete with illustrations, about one of the stories we read. These should be great visuals and will be displayed outside my classroom.
Next week 8th grade will begin “Animal Farm” and 7th grade “Call of the Wild”. Our vocabulary study will come from these novels as well. The students will have a reading schedule and various assignments on the chapters.
We took the spelling bee pretest and the following students will represent 7th and 8th grade at the school spelling bee on February 5th: Joshua Murphy, Clarke Cooper, Karissa Kelly, Jason Cross, Miranda Dunn, and Mia Dortch. They have been given their books to study from and they have plenty of time to do so. CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE STAR SPELLERS!
Sincerely,
Jo-Ellen Solita
