Math: Lesson 106

Social Studies: Students should continue working on the Westward Expansion journals, which are due Friday.

Today we started discussing some of the differences between the Northern states and Southern states and how they contributed to the Civil War. Homework is to complete the first side of the first page of the “Pre-Civil War” worksheet packet. Much of the information can be found in the What Every 5^th Grader Needs to Know book. Some will need to be researched on line with parent permission.

Also, Students have been assigned to memorize the first three paragraphs of the Gettysburg Address. A copy of it was given to all students to use. Please spend some time familiarizing the words. This should be memorized by the end of next week.

Reading: Don’t forget that the book report is due on Thursday!

Spelling: pages 148-149

Social Studies:

Students should be working on their Westward Expansion journals. These are due this Friday. Note: The average journey took 6 months on the trails (Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, etc). You do not need to have an entry for every day of the journey, but should include the highlights of your ‘journey.’ Realistic hardships and experiences should be included.
