What a great time we are all
having in the Science Lab! We are busy
learning so very much and having fun at the same time!
Kindergarten
is having fun learning about animals. We
have made bird feeders to help feed the animals during the winter when they
have little food to eat. We have learned
about how animals take care of their babies and how their babies look like
their parents. Next, we will spend a few
weeks learning about how we take care of our pets.
First Grade
is learning about some scientists and how they have contributed to our
lives. Our first scientist was Rachel
Carson who wrote books about the sea and nature. This week we learned about Louis Pasteur and
his contributions to the medical field.
We will also be learning about Thomas Edison and Edward Jenner.
Second Grade
is starting a new unit on digestion this week.
We will be making a “stomach” out of a balloon and “digesting”
food. It is always so much fun to learn
how our bodies work! Be warned about
dinner table discussions!
Third Grade
has begun a unit on sound. We have
several exciting experiments to do in the month ahead as we learn about sound
and how our ears work to hear sound.
Fourth Grade
is learning about weather. We are
starting with a review of the water cycle.
We will learn about the atmosphere and what role it plays in weather. We will learn about different weather types
and the difference between weather and climate.
Fifth Grade
has begun preliminary work in order to prepare for doing their science fair
projects. While the fair will not be
until February we are beginning now to get ready for it. We will spend a few weeks reviewing the
Scientific Method in the classroom to make sure all of the students understand
it and then we will begin to send home information for those students who are
already anxious to begin work on their projects.
If you have any questions or
would like more information about what your student may be learning in Science
Lab please feel free to email me at jamesa@academycharter.org
and I will be happy to help.
