From the Art Room

Welcome back to all of our ACS artists!!  I am looking forward to a great new school year with lots of fun projects.  My apologies again for not catching the errors on the middle school supply lists!  I hope all of our students will be happier with the spiral sketch books this year, since they won’t be shooting loose pages out everywhere. J

We will of course be off to a rollicking start with the middle school – making folders and going over the course curriculum for the year.  The eighth grade will be studying architecture and 3-D effects, as well as Surrealism and modern landscape, to name a few.  Seventh grade covers impressionism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Romanticism and much more.  Sixth grade will take a peek at ancient Greece and Rome, sculpture and architecture and Gothic art, to start with.  Fun for all!

**Parents, we can still use a few more plastic coffee containers – they are really the best for storage, water buckets, and markers.  (last year we had a student cut their hand on a metal coffee can and I would LOVE to never have that happen again!)  Boxes of tissues are also welcome, as well as a few containers of Clorox type wipes for the cold season.

And of course, as always, volunteers are extremely welcome in the art room, any time of day both during and between classes. The afternoon elementary classes (K through 3) are always when I need volunteers.   If you are a “quiet time” helper, and prefer doing laminating and copying between classes, that is just fine too.

Parents!!! Get volunteer hours reading a book!

Those special volunteers with nerves of steel willing to come in and model for the middle school in the morning are desperately needed.  Moms can bring a cool hat and loose “draping clothing” along with a book.

What about it, all of you body building Dads????  Anyone up for an athletic “discus throwing” pose??  Or perhaps we can cheat and put you in Rodin’s “The Thinker” pose and you can read.  We had fabulous results last year with one of our dads who graciously committed to stay for three days and studied a manual!
