ACS Eagle
Expectations guide our Behavior Management System: 4-8
1. Walk quietly in the hallways.
2. Follow our dress code.
3. Be respectful to all teachers,
adults and peers.
4. Follow classroom rules.
5. Display good character and good
choices.

from Student Hand Book)
Behavior Expectations - ACS students are expected to be well
behaved at all times, respecting themselves, others and property. Our
philosophy regarding discipline is that discipline policies and procedures
should provide guidance and direction toward acceptable behavior, with the goal
being to develop a child’s self-discipline.

from Student Hand Book)
Homework:
Students should expect
some type of homework Monday-Friday each week. Students are also expected
to be reading 20 minutes a night. Homework is due on the assigned
date. Homework needs to be completed by the beginning of class or it is
late. Students will also be using their student agendas to record their
homework which will be stamped by us, the 6th grade teachers.
Assignments will also be posted on the website, http://www.academycharter.org, in the
homework webpages.
Homework is part of our general academic expectations for our
students. It prepares students for high school and college and the work world
to be faced upon graduation. It also helps develop a strong work ethic and
personal organization skills. Its immediate educational purpose is:
1. to reinforce skills and concepts learned in class
2. to develop study
skills and habits
3. to inform parents what
is being taught in the classroom
(taken from the
Student Hand Book)
Late Assignments:
It is very important that
homework assignments are completed on time. Homework is assigned so that
students may either review a concept already covered in class or become
familiar with a topic that will be covered in class the following day.
When a student does not do their homework they miss out on the benefits of
participation in classroom discussions and the opportunity to ask questions
about what has not been understood. Students will receive full
credit if it is turned in within the allotted time frame. After this time has
expired or the due date passed, students will be graded accordingly: 1st day
late=50% off final grade 2nd day late=a zero This scale applies to all late
work whether it is homework, class work, or projects. After the 2nd day of
being late, the assignment will be an automatic zero in the grade book. It is
the parents’ and/or students’ responsibility to contact the teacher to determine
what assignments were missed.
Grades:
Students will receive
points for assignments. Every assignment is point for point. The
areas students will be graded on are tests, quizzes, projects, homework,
in-class assignments and bell work assignments.
Make sure to stop by the
office to pick up your Infinite Campus log in information, so that you may,
with your student, be able to check their assignments and grade.
Discipline:
We will be using a
positive reinforcement system with the 6th graders this year.
We will be handing out “Above and Beyond tickets.” The students are given
3 good faith tickets at the beginning of each month. They need to have 13
tickets to participate in the reward. They gain tickets for above and beyond
behavior. They will lose their tickets only for discipline/behavior,
dress code and academics are separate.
Purpose of Homework
1.
Practice skills and concepts being learned.
2.
Facilitate responsibility, accountability, self-discipline, independence,
perseverance and time-management.
The
table below outlines the different roles for each person.
