Here’s  some of what  we’ll be learning this month in first grade.

 

Reading : Cause and Effect, Questioning, Making Inferences, Classifying and Categorizing

 

Grammar: color words, number words, synonyms and antonyms

 

Math : Geometry, money, adding 3 digit numbers, rounding/estimating

 

Science- Continuation of the Foss Science Units

 

Social Studies- Civics- Wants and Needs, Producers/Consumers, Goods and Services

What to do at home…….

 

Feel free to reinforce any of these concepts at home.  Be sure to read nightly. Ask your child about what they have read. Have them retell the story to you. Practice addition and subtraction math facts.

 

 

Important News –

Field trip slips and money is due this Wednesday, May 4th. Please send this in ASAP so that we have an accurate count.

 

Kiss the Pig continues….send in your donations. Right now, now one in first grade will have to kiss the pig. We’d all really love to kiss the pig in front of your kiddos! J

Homework- Please make sure your child is doing both the math and reading/spelling homework. Many students are turning in only math homework.

 

We are continuing to make our way through the Saxon Math program. We will continue to learn both addition and subtraction facts. Please make sure your student is practicing their facts each night.

 

Students will continue to study science through the Foss Science program as well as with weekly visits to the Science Lab with Mrs. Martinelli.

Other important information-

Some students are not coming to school with proper outerwear. Please make sure to send your student to school with the appropriate sweatshirt, coat, jacket, etc. Remember students go to recess as long as it is at least 25 degrees outside.

 

Please remember to wear bike shorts under skirts and jumpers.

 

Please remember to wear non marking gym shoes on PE day.

Please send your child to school with a water bottle.

 

 

Dress Code Reminders-

Please review the ACS dress code in regard to hair length for boys. Also, shirts must be tucked in unless otherwise notified. Hair accessories for girls must match the uniform.
