What's Happening In First Grade?                          

        

                                                        September

 

 

Spelling – We will continue to study the sound for short a, short e, short i and short o over the next few weeks.

 

Grammar- This month we will learn about writing a sentence. We will cover statements, questions and exclamations. We will also work on word order.

 

Reading – This month we will be learning about story structure with a focus on characters, setting and sequencing about what they are reading. 

 

Writing- Our writing for the next few weeks will focus on personal narratives and descriptive writing.

 

Math- We have begun our Saxon Math Program. Homework will come home M-Th nights and is due on Friday. Please go over the homework with your child each night.

 

In CORE we will begin our Foss science units. All 3 classes will begin with a study of plants. Ms. Butler’s class will continue with a study of insects. Mrs. Pearson’s class will move to studying solids and liquids. Miss Zimmerman’s class will move on to studying Pebbles, Sand and Silt.

Please remember to wear bike shorts under skirts and jumpers.

 

Please remember to wear non marking gym shoes on PE day.

 

Please send your child to school with a water bottle.
